Cities around the U.S. are looking for tools to help redevelop communities that enable multi-modal transportation while increasing economic development, and reducing carbon emissions. The “Better Block” project is a demonstration tool that acts as a living charrette so that communities can actively engage in the build out process and provide feedback in real time.
This is the first time that Build a Better Block has been to San Diego, and more specifically Historic Downtown Logan. Their main vision is a bike-friendly district, complete with pop-up businesses, landscaping, parks, outdoor seating, art, and entertainment. Volunteers help put this vision into place by helping paint, clean, landscape, and more! This is an amazing community outreach opportunity that involves the entire community from residents, volunteers, students, and community leaders! The project acts as a living blueprint so the entire community can envision and join in planning the future development of the area.
OTV had the opportunity to cover the SDAR Build a Better Project on Logan Avenue. Interviews are done by Molly O’Dell of Oakwood Escrow! Interviews include; Carla Farley with the SDAR Housing Opportunity Committee Chair, Chris Anderson the SDAR President, Deanne Hutchinson with Rebuilding Together, Denise Mathis with DEM Real Estate, and Angelica Wallace with Realty Executives Dillon.
